Our Interactive Root (iRoot) Utility

Our interactive virtual server administrator utility, iRoot, allows a virtual server administrator to remotely perform routine administrative tasks using your favorite browser client (Netscape Navigator, MSIE, etc). These tasks include adding a POP account, removing a POP account, adding and deleting Email aliases, and much more. The iRoot "wizards" walk you through a step by step process for each task.

Before you install iRoot, you must install iManager, which is an interactive web content manager and file browser. iManager allows you to use your favorite browser client to perform simple file manipulation tasks such as uploading files, copying files, deleting files, etc.

NOTE: iManager is not yet supported on our Virtual Servers running the FreeBSD O/S. If your Virtual Server was ordered after December 1, 1999, you are likely running FreeBSD. To find out which O/S your Virtual Server is running, use the uname command:

% uname

Installing iRoot

To install iRoot, telnet to your Virtual Server and perform the following steps:
  1. Make your home directory the current working directory, type "cd" at your telnet prompt and then hit the return key.
  2. Untar the iRoot archive file, type the following:
    tar -xvf /usr/local/contrib/iroot.tar

You can now use the iRoot utility on your server by accessing the URL:

  •   http://your_domain_name/cgi-bin/admin/gateway.cgi
      or
      http://your_domain_name/cgi-bin/admin/vs/gateway.cgi

You can either open the URL with your browser directly, or link the URL to either text or an image on one (or more) of your web pages.

iRoot Authentication

After you have installed iRoot on your virtual server, open up the URL listed in the installation section. You will be asked to provide the root administrative password for your virtual server. If you correctly specify the password, you will be authenticated and permitted access to the iRoot wizards.
