MKStats 2.3

Installation

To install MKStats 2.3, telnet or SSH to your Virtual Server and do the following:

NOTE: Since MKStats has been acquired by the WebTrends Corporation, it does not appear that the MKStats product below will continue to be supported. You may want to consider this before installing MKStats on your Virtual Server. Analog continues to be supported and is also freely available for easy installation on all Virtual Servers.

Also, we have patched MKStats so that it is Y2K compliant, but we cannot guarantee the performance of this patch. If you have previously installed MKStats you must re-install MKStats in order to apply this fix. The previous version was not Y2K compliant and will not function correctly after 12/31/1999. If you are currently using MKStats we strongly recommend that you migrate to a package that is Y2K compliant.

Also, MKStats is not supported on our Virtual Servers running the FreeBSD O/S. If your Virtual Server was ordered after Decembe 1, 1999, you are likely running FreeBSD. To find out which O/S your Virtual Server is running, use the uname command:

% uname

  1. For MKStats 2.3 to function properly you need to install a version of Perl 5 with the GD module on your virtual server. Our latest version of Perl 5 available for use on the virtual servers has the GD module installed. There are Perl 5 installation instructions in the online technical support database.

  2. Untar the MKStats 2.3 tar file located in the /usr/local/contrib area. These commands will copy the MKStats software onto your virtual server.
% cd (this will put you in your home directory)
      % tar -xvf /usr/local/contrib/mkstats2.3.tar

  3. Run the MKStats 2.3 install program by executing the following command:
% cd ~/www/htdocs/mkstats2.3 (this will put you in the mkstats home directory)
      % virtual ./install.pl

The script will ask you several questions, all of which you can answer with the default value by typing the "Enter" key.

  4. After completing the MKStats 2.3 installation, you need to run the MKStats program in order to generate web pages with you virtual server's web access statistics. To run the program, type the following command:
% cd ~/www/htdocs/mkstats2.3 (this will put you in the mkstats home directory)
      % virtual ./mkstats.pl -c mkstats.config -v

This will create several pages with your virtual server's web statistics at the default configuration location and filename: http://YOUR-DOMAIN.com/mkstats2.3/output.
